How to identify copper: complete guide
Copper is the most valued non-ferrous metal. Here’s how to easily identify it among your metals.
The characteristic color
Pure copper has a unique red-orange color. With oxidation, it develops a green patina (verdigris). Lightly scratch the surface: if the metal is red underneath, it’s copper.
The magnetic test
Copper is not magnetic. If a magnet sticks to your piece, it’s not pure copper (possibly copper-plated steel).
Density
Copper is relatively heavy (8.96 g/cm³). It’s heavier than aluminum but lighter than lead.
Where to sell your copper?
Bull Metal purchases all copper grades at the best market price in Ozoir-la-Ferrière (77). Immediate cash payment.
